Tiger Airways Private Limited is a budget airline from Singapore, based at Singapore Changi Airport. The airline was incorporated on 12/Dec/2003 and ticket sales began on 31/Aug/2004. Tiger Airways started during a time of intense competition from other airlines and cost-pressure due to rising oil prices - but has resisted imposing fuel surcharges and continues to increase market share.
In terms of passengers carried, Tiger is currently the biggest budget airline operating out of Singapore. In 2006, the airline flew 1.2 million passengers, up 75% on the 2005. Tiger Airlines operates a single-model fleet. All aircraft being the Airbus A320-200, configured as single-class economy seating for 180 seats each. The airline took delivery of its last plane in April 2006, bringing the total fleet to 9. Tiger Airways plans to increase this to 20 aircraft by 2010.
On 12/Jan/2007, Tiger announced that it would commence services to Perth Airport on 23/March/2007. On 9/Feb/2007, it announced its intention to become Australia's third full scale domestic airline, competing directly with Virgin Blue and Qantas/Jetstar.
